A Law Library Company of the City of Philadelphia was founded inside 1802 by 71 attorneys, among whom were a virtually all large attorney of the instance. It formed the corporation and then it may jointly choose the collection of legal materials by having which to practice law. Shares of stock index in the company were sold for $20; annual dues were $2.
Within 1827, a Law Library Company merged by having a Associated Members of the Bar & became called the Law Association of Philadelphia. Sooner or later this organization became called a Philadelphia Bar Association, & around 1931 the library's title was changed (a number one of many name changes) to the Law Library of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
A library was operated by the Bar Association until July 1, 1967, when a Theodore F. Jenkins Memorial Law Library was established by using court approval to carry out a provisions of the might of the late Madeleine Hart Jenkins. It was her wish that her late hubby, Theodore Finley Jenkins, become memorialized within a manner that would advantage a Bar & the public.
Governed by the Board of Directors, the Jenkins Memorial Law Library occurs as 501(c)(3). Although okay, independent from either a Philadelphia Bar Associatiin, them organizations operate together on reciprocal projects that gain members of the Philadelphia legal community.
